The Santa Monica Main OR has been involved with health system activities, community events, and fundraisers. They collaborate on ways to make the process before, during, and after surgery for patients as seamless as possible. UPC has played a vital part in turning our unit culture and overall staff morale towards the positive. The UPC works with leadership and together has started many significant initiatives to improve patient safety, including a latex-free OR environment, standardizing our code blue to improve patient outcomes, and establishing an earthquake protocol within the OR. We plan monthly social activities to boost staff morale.
If our staff is happy and well taken care of, they work efficiently, which leads to great patient outcomes. The UPC has also started an open forum where staff can submit their concerns which UPC has made a priority. Overall, the UPC has worked very hard to improve our unit. In the prior years, UPC was something that staff shied away from, but now staff want to get involved with all the projects and initiatives.
